Gemma Gurney

Gemma Gurney, Founder & President of Immersa Education, is a widely recognized social studies educator and curriculum innovator. In 2025, she was honored as the Kane County Educator of the Year, the highest distinction awarded to a teacher in the region. Known for her immersive, student-centered approach to teaching, Gemma brings a unique blend of creativity, academic rigor, and heart to every classroom she touches.

She continues to teach full-time at the high school level in Kane County, where she designs interactive simulations, artifact-based mysteries, and real-world learning experiences that spark curiosity and deepen student engagement. What began as a passion for bringing learning to life has evolved into a growing nonprofit on a mission to expand access to experiential education through mobile VR trunks, digital learning tools, and community partnerships.
